Surcharges for Regular Rated Insurance Company
A surcharge will be applied to your automobile insurance if any of the following have occurred in the 36 months (3 years) prior to the policy inception date. The surcharge is added to both the liability premium and the collision coverage on the vehicle. 

        Accidents
  • three accidents, surcharge an additional .............................30%
  • each additional accident, and additional charge of .................10% 

        Convictions

Any offence under any act governing highway traffic involving failing to report and accident or to give his/her name and licence number in the event of an accident to police or other persons entitled to such information; improper passing of school buses; or an offence substantially the same committed outside Canada apply:

  • one conviction ............................................................15%
  • each additional .............................................................5%


Any offence under any act governing highway traffic involving breach of speed limits and moving traffic offences other than listed above or below, including: speeding; stunting; improper passing/speeding in school or playground zones; prohibited U-turn; pedestrian cross-over violation; following too close; fail to obey traffic sign/control device; fail to stop as required; fail to share road; fail to yield right of way to vehicle/pedestrian; fail to have proper trailer attachments; improper use of or failure to use turn/stop signal device; impending traffic/passing vehicle; drive unaccompanied by licensed driver; drive unsafe vehicle; driving wrong side of road/highway; improper passing/driving; carrying person in trailer; crossing railway barrier; crowding driver seat:

  • convictions .....................................................no surcharge
  • four convictions ..........................................................25%
  • each subsequent conviction .............................................15%


Driving without due care and attention; racing; careless driving; criminal negligence committed in the operation of a motor vehicle; manslaughter committed in the operation of a motor vehicle; failing to stop at the scene of an accident; impaired driving; failure or refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test; failing to pass a breathalyzer test; driving while licence under suspension; dangerous driving:

  • one conviction .............................................................50%
  • each additional ...........................................................100%
